Sunny Days

Sunny Days are here!!
Not that they ever really leave us here in Southern California,
but they are here in full force with scorching temperatures to boot!

Being a natural redhead, fair & sensitive skinned, I'm always conscious of sun protection.
That means staying in the shade when possible, wearing a hat and of course sunscreen!!

asked me to try out there new line of sunscreen I jumped right on board!

The face-friendly formulas both in a 15 or 30 SPF, offer lightweight sheer coverage
that absorbs in seconds and leaves barely a trace on skin.
They leave your skin soft and smooth and the sunscreen won’t clog pores or cause breakouts
(it's clinically tested on acne-prone skin).

It has a light citrus scent and is water resistant for up to 80 minutes!

The sunscreen is clean and light, and I found it ideal for everyday use under makeup.
It didn't make me feel greasy in the least and the protection is great!

I've used it on multiple occasions and have been really pleased with the results.
It smells less "beachy" than some other sunscreens I've used in the past,
and I liked the fact that I didn't smell like I had sunscreen on.
I was still able to wear my normal fragrance that I like.

A great Coppertone product that I will definitely keep purchasing.

Here's to Sunny Summer Days!!

I received samples of Coppertone Clearly Sheer to try out as part of a BzzAgent campaign.

Woo Hoo!

I can't believe it, but I'm finished the didactic portion of my schooling!!
It's been long, grueling and fun all at the same time.

I've never studied so hard in my life!
Anatomy and physiology, microbiology,
surgical techniques and instruments and oh yeah...some more anatomy!

I would leave my house at 6:30 in the morning,
sit in lecture and work in lab all day,
get home around 4:30 and then settle in,
to on average 3 hours of homework a night!
Shower, bed and repeat the next day.
Needless to say, there hasn't been a whole lot of cooking going on around here!

What a sense of accomplishment walking out of my classroom
at the end of finals week knowing I'd done it!
One of my prouder moments in life, that's for sure.
And I did it maintaining a 98%+ average...not too bad for the oldest gal in class!
BIG smile on my face when I saw my final grades.

We learned the art of "scrubbing".

The proper way to put on a gown & gloves while staying sterile.

We worked in mock surgery with our instructor/surgeon
to learn the proper techniques of passing instruments and assisting the surgeon.

We even learned how to suture!

It was a great class and we all learned so much.
New friends were made and we really got the chance to bond.

Monday will bring a new learning experience as I start my clinicals at a nearby hospital.
I'm filled with excitement and wonder,
as I will for the first time set foot into an operating room,
and put into practice everything that I've learned.

I'm thankful beyond words for this opportunity,
and look forward to where this new path is going to lead me.

Thanks for sticking around the blog,
and hopefully my posts will get a little more frequent as my study load has lightened.

Happy Weekend!

Silky Smooth

Are you like me?
I hate shaving my legs.
I mean, I really hate it.
I put it off as long as possible, especially in the winter months.
Why you ask?

My sensitive skin always seems to get so dry and itchy afterwards,
no matter the razor or how much lotion I apply afterwards.
And I hate walking around with itchy legs...Ick!

So when I was approached by Schick® to try their
Hydro Silk® razor, I jumped on the chance.

The thing I noticed when I took the first few strokes,
was how smooth it glided over my legs.
Shea butter at work!
It's hypoallergenic too, so I didn't worry about getting any irritation from the moisturizing serum.

There are 5 Curve Sensing Blades, so it gives a really close shave which I liked, and they didn't irritate my skin at all.
When I was done, my skin was missing that usual tightness that I always felt after shaving.
My legs felt smooth and hydrated.
I was really impressed!

For an extra soothing and moisturizing shaving experience I paired it with
Skintimate Skin Therapy and I didn't even need lotion when I was done!

This is a product that I will definitely buy again.
No more putting off shaving my legs, even in the winter.

Bring on the silky smooth legs!

I received samples of Schick Hydro Silk to try as part of a BzzAgent campaign.

You Don't Have To Have Allergies

Thankfully, we don't have food allergies in our house.
We can eat whatever we want, but that doesn't mean we should!
I am very conscious of what I put in my body, both for health and weight reasons.
(especially now since I'm sitting in a chair in a classroom 8 hours a day)

Since I'm already a huge fan of flax in my smoothies and baking, when I
came across this cereal I just had to give it a try.

Delicious!
Crunchy.
Oh, and it stays crunchy!
Did I mention it's crunchy?
Just a faint hint of sweetness.
Lots of protein and fiber.
And for those who have nut or gluten allergies...go right ahead, it's allergy friendly!
I love it with a little almond milk or sprinkled dry on top of my yogurt.

It's a nutritious and delicious snack!

Just because you don't have allergies, doesn't mean you can't enjoy
some of the wonderful allergy friendly food products out there.
You might be surprised and find yourself a new favorite like I did!

Have you come across any great food products lately?

A Busy Start

As my school vacation is quickly coming to a close,
I thought I'd share with you a few of the things that I've been busy with over the break.

First there was Christmas!
We had a lovely, low key day with family.
The only bummer was that my son who works at a local grocery store got a shift mid day.
He was a real trouper about it though and went with a smile.
We worked around it so as not to dampen any of the day's festivities.
(Let's just say I'm not a huge fan of things,
besides the hospital being open on Christmas Day...
I mean come on, you've known it was coming all year long...but I digress)

We all got some fun new things to play with, which is always a nice treat.
My son who works and earns his own money surprised me with this...

I'm a huge fan of The Mentalist and just knowing that
he worked for it and came up with the idea all by himself makes it that much more special.
Love it!

My husband has been wanting to try his hand at home brewing, so I got him a beer making kit!
First we steeped and boiled.

Then a quick improvise to cool down the wort when we realized
that the extra large pot didn't fit in our sink!
Ooops!
Thank goodness for a wheelbarrow and lots of ice!

So now it's nestled in a corner busy fermenting away.

Fingers crossed we did everything right.
We should be ready to bottle in less than 2 weeks!

Then....yippee, yippee...home improvement project for the New Year!
Between dogs, kids and just regular wear and tear our bedroom carpet had seen better days.
Bring on the laminate floors!!

Bye-bye stinky old carpet!

Get the sub floor ready.

Hello Allen & Roth

And then there was this score.
A fab mid century dresser with a $29 price tag at Goodwill.
Yes please!
All it needed was a little love and some Danish Oil and she was as good as new!

So pleased with the way it turned out.
And those shelves in the background...another DIY
that we tackled.
Instructions via here.

While I still have a little styling and finishing touches to do, I can't believe what a difference a couple hundred dollars and some elbow grease made!
A wonderfully fresh way to start off the New Year!

So while I may not have spent as much time in the kitchen as I had hoped for,
I sure got a lot accomplished.

I hope that you all enjoyed a wonderful Holiday season,
and may the New Year bring all kinds of great things!
