Wordless Wednesday...Well, Except For The Recipe

Key Lime Pie Ice Cream


Inspired from here but with the following tweaks...
I juiced fresh key limes, 
about 10 of them instead of using bottled juice, and zested 2 limes into the ice cream mixture.
 I also added about a 1/4 cup of sour cream for a little added tang.

Simply Divine!

This is the ice cream maker I have and I love it!!

Focus on Life - Week 8 - Monochromatic

Sally's prompt this week was monochromatic.
Monochromatic photos evoke strong emotion. 
They tell a story so differently then seeing the multi layered colors usually present.

I chose to use a photo I took many years ago in Wales.
To this day it is still one of my favorite black and white photos that I've ever taken.

The place is Tintern Abbey.
It is a place of grandeur, magnificent lore and is hauntingly beautiful.
I remember sitting in the grasses surrounding the Abbey 
and being in complete awe of it's size and beauty.
To me there was no other way to capture it's history and grace than through black and white.

Focus on Life - Week 7 - Beauty of Flowers

After missing the link up the last 2 weeks
 with the flu circulating our house and just extra craziness,
thankfully I found time to pick up my camera this week and join back in.

Sally's prompt this week was to capture the beauty of flowers.
This was a prime week to have this challenge as the love of Valentine's was all around us.
Flowers seemed to be everywhere this week!
My husband bought me the most beautiful tulips and I just knew that I had to photograph them.
As they were sitting in the window with the light filtering in, 
the petals almost got a translucent effect which I loved.
I applied an antique filter and it accented it even further.

I hope that everyone enjoyed a wonderful Valentine's Day.

Breakfast In Paris

I am a chef.
Okay, maybe not officially, but I like to think I am
 when I'm creating meals in my own kitchen.

I would however not profess to be a baker.
I like to bake.
I'm fairly decent at it, but a true full blown baker I am not.
Lately though that has started to change.
I've gotten into baking breads.
Artisan loaves which my family loves, and now any store bought bread in our house 
is a thing of the past.

It's a two edged sword really - once you've had the homemade stuff, you can't go back. 
I mean you really can't go back.

That brings me to my husband and this wonderful Christmas gift he got me.

This book is phenomenal!  
It is a wealth of information and has absolutely wonderful step by step photos for some of the more complicated breads.

I've now made a few things from this book, with really good results.
So good in fact that I decided to try my hand at croissants.
You might think - pffft what's there to a croissant.
Let me tell you...a whole lot!

This is not a recipe you can start last minute as it needs to rise,
 and start working it's magic in the refrigerator overnight.
In the morning, there is rolling, folding and waiting...waiting for the dough to be just right.
Then shaped in to perfect crescents and then some more waiting.
Then after what seemed like an eternity, it gets baked.
After baking, there's still more waiting
 as the butter settles into all the nooks and crannies.

Then, finally after all the hard work there is this....
(insert some sort of angelic sound effect here)

and of course you can't forget the inside...

It was delectable!
Decidedly the best croissant I've ever eaten.
Slightly warm, the faintest hint of sweet dough, 
the wonderful crunch of the egg washed exterior and lots of flaky crumbles.
Just the way it was meant to be!

It transported me to a Paris cafe,
not that I've actually ever been there before, but you get the idea.

So next Sunday morning...
I think I might just be having breakfast in Paris again!
