Chocolate Silk

Back to work and back to school means busier days are back!

I'm always on the lookout for fun little snacks that I can pack easily for work.
I don't often get much time to eat and sometimes a quick bite is all I have time for.
This has become my new favorite...

Peanut butter, which is one of my favorite things in the world, combined with chocolate!!
I mean, how can you go wrong!
YUM!
I love whole wheat pretzel sticks dipped in it - delicious!
It's creamy and silky and just the right amount of chocolate.
A definite must try!!

Do you have a favorite "On The Go" snack?

My Dress Story

I have a thing for vintage dresses.
Or maybe they have a thing for me...whichever it is,
vintage is habitually my preference over new.
The fabric is usually softened from time,
and has details you don't often find in new garments.
But most importantly there's a story...
and even if I don't know the story, I know the dress has one.

Was it worn out to dinner?
Did it get picked often from the closet or hang there awaiting a special occasion?
Did she laugh or cry when she wore it?
Did she get kissed?
Was it her favorite?
I like imagining where the dress might have been...she could be a world traveler for all I know!

My latest vintage, hails from the 1950's.
A pin tucked bodice in the freshest of greens,
and a skirt that is filled with flowing script and a garden print.

I may not know where she has been,
but I can tell you where I have taken her...

She was worn for a special dinner.
She wore her red shoes.
She laughed.
And, yes...she got kissed.
Blush.

Now she waits patiently till her next outing,
so she can add to her stories.

Do you have a favorite dress?

My Last Few Days

As my last few days of Summer vacation are quickly coming to a close.
I've been savoring sleepy mornings, still in my pj's, enjoying a lazy cup of coffee with

I'm hooked on the French Vanilla!!  So creamy & delicious!
Have you tried them?

I think we're on day 9 now, of an icky heat wave here in Southern California.
It's been well over 100 degrees every day, cooling off to maybe 75 at night - ick!
My air conditioner, (thank heavens for that invention)
is going to need a serious vacation when this heat spell over!

What it's meant for me is afternoon runs to Starbucks for my favorite cool down treat...

Tart, sweet & oh so refreshing!
With the extended forecast not showing much improvement,
I'm seeing a few more in my near future!!

What's For Dinner?

That's a question that frequently gets asked around here?
More by me - the resident chef - than the teenagers!
Last week when continuous hot weather sent my tomato plants into hyperdrive,
it became a question of  "What to do with all these tomatoes?"

I had just the solution!
Add a little puff pastry, some goat cheese, black olives, eggs,
a nice chilled glass of rose and voila...
dinner was served!

It was a perfect summer meal!
Served rustic family style, right off a wooden board sitting in the backyard.
Creamy and tangy goat cheese, sweet roasted tomatoes, salty olives, fresh thyme.
The flavors balanced perfectly - something I always look for in a dish.

Here's to summer tomatoes!!

What's your favorite summer meal?
